Choose Your Fabrics Wisely

Clothes are something that we buy a LOT of! Eventually we grow out of them, they go out of style, or they become worn. We’re faced with boxes and boxes of these garments and we need to make a decision! How do we recycle our old clothes? Or perhaps you have a pair of pants or a shirt that is in perfect condition but not quite your fancy… and you’d like to know how to reuse it.

Here Are Some Startling Facts About Our Textiles:

  • Textiles make up 13 PERCENT of our landfill waste.
  • It takes leather 25 YEARS to decompose.
  • It takes nylon 45 YEARS to decompose.
  • Polyester and cotton NEVER DECOMPOSE!

What Can We Do?

As always, Vocal Trash likes to give you real solutions you can apply to your everyday life to help you conserve the environment and save the planet as best you can. Here are some steps you can take to eliminate your fair share of textile trash:

  1. Switch to 100% Organic Cotton!

(Guess what our Vocal Trash t-shirts are made out of?!)

  2. Buy Bamboo!

(You can get bamboo towels, yoga pants, hats and reusable silverware at TheGreenerGood.com!)

  3. Choose Hemp!

(Hemp is natural, decomposes faster and is grown right here in the USA to protect local jobs!)

                                 Remember To

“THINK…before You Throw It Away!”

Also, don’t forget to donate your old clothes to ClothesForKids.org. Maybe someone else would appreciate the gesture. If you’re not sure what to recycle, ask your parents or friends for suggestions. Together we can make a difference and find more creative ways to reuse our textiles that take up so much space in our landfills, not to mention clothe the needy.
